ICYMI: The Emues DJ Showcase

In case you missed it, at the Emues DJ Showcase on July 26, 2014, some of the best local DJ acts took over Galleriet at Mitt Möllan in Malmö, Sweden. The Showcase was a great “Boiler Room”-type party in the heat of the summer, to cool down and heat up, with five DJ acts spinning their beats.

This is one of several Emues Showcases that we put together to highlight some of all the amazing artists on Emues.com – where you have the possibility to suggest, promote and book shows.

Spotlight: MAKKS

Who is MAKKS and when did he see the daylight?

Makks is an old rudeboy with a lot of gentleman qualities. He has been DJing for about 6 years, and been producing for about 4 years.

How would you describe a typical MAKKS-set?

A typical Makks set starts off at around 85 bpm with some slow wine tunes, then I work myself up tempo-wise. A main thing for me is to keep the energy flowing during my set, and not just jump from one track to another. Then it makes more sense for the crowd so they let go of their phones and start dancing. And musically I mix club music with dancehall, reaggeton, zoukbass and other rhythmical stuff!

What have you been up to this summer and what’s coming up?

Mostly working my daytime job, then been BBQing  every other day, and of course doin’ some beats.

Which track should we absolutely not miss out on this summer?

Oufff, there is so much good music coming every day. From my ringside, you should definitely listen to “Dem Show Me” from myself & Milanrepa out on Fresh Bed Recordings, and I heard my breddas Cocotaxi are cooking up something big for DuttyArtz in NYC!

MAKKS will be DJing at the Emues Showcase in Malmö, Sweden on Saturday, July 26, 2014. Be there!

When did the artist Jesper Bohman see the daylight?

Jesper Bohman is a trippy DJ based out of the woods of Småland. I started to DJ/produce in my bedroom back in 2011, but I still find it extremely difficult to release something because I’m so self-critical. So I prefer to play others’ stuff and keep struggling with my own shit.

How would you describe a typical Jesper Bohman-set?

With two words: Chopped & screwed. A great variety of new beats and the most classic RnB songs with a new twist. There’s nothing better than a high-pitched RnB voice with some electronic beats hammering in the background.  ( ˘ ³˘)❤

What have you been up to this summer and what’s coming up?

I’ve been working on my own material and I hope to be able to drop an EP this autumn.  Upcoming gigs this summer is Emmabodafestivalen and a lot more craziness with the Pizza Slize Crew.

Which track should we absolutely not miss out on this summer?

Acqua di Losó – Lorentz. This song is pretty dope for being Swedish.

Jesper Bohman will be DJing at the Emues Showcase in Malmö, Sweden on Saturday, July 26, 2014. Be there!

Spotlight: Zophy

Who is Zophy and when did she see the daylight?

Zophy is an electro/house/complextro DJ based out of Malmö, Sweden. I started to DJ together with a friend, on some really old and crappy equipment in my living room back in 2010. Back then we were DJing in a duo together, but in early 2013 I decided to go solo and that’s when Zophy was born.

Can you try to explain a typical Zophy-set?

A typical Zophy-set includes a lot of energy, base and all those electro sounds that I love. The most important thing for me during a set is to connect with the audience. I think the hardest part about being a DJ is to constantly read the audience to see what they like and what they react to. It’s all about that. Also, I always try to throw in some surprises, something that the audience doesn’t expect, that I know they’ll love.

What’s the ambition with Zophy and what happens in the future?

My ambition right now is to keep on doing my thing and to have fun with it. I want to keep playing the music I love and to make people dance. I hope that the future will bring some really interesting stuff. I have some projects for this autumn/winter, but nothing is final so I have to keep it a secret for now.

Zophy will be DJing at the Emues Showcase in Malmö, Sweden on Saturday, July 26, 2014. Be there!

Slackin’ Beats – Make Love (Teaser)

A few months ago the Emues blog wrote about this new producer Slackin’ Beats. Read what Maja said about the young, Swedish producer here.

”Make Love EP and the video to Make Love out soon!! / SLACKIN”
We look forward to see the result of an EP that he describes as a ”soulful trip thru instrumental hip hop-beats”.

New Artist: Slackin’ Beats

Slackin’ Beats, is a producer and DJ from Katrinehlom, Sweden. Up until now Katrineholm has only been a place where I waited for hours when I  lived in Oslo and had been home visiting friends and family. But now the small city has grown in my eyes, and that’s all thanks to Slackin’ Beats!

In one remix this small town producer summarizes a part of 2013. With an amazing Jersey Club remix of Mack Beats’ track “Lägg Dig Ner” – two of my best discoveries of 2013 emerge into one perfect track!

If you have any questions about Jersey Club and know Swedish you should check out Malin Wester’s blog here.

My dream concert: Buraka Som Sistema

Whenever I need to cheer up or have to get pumped up there’s only one solution and that’s Buraka Som Sistema. It’s a Portuguese group of singers, producers, musicians and dj-s that’s been adding awesomeness to my life since 2008.

Buraka Som Sistema

For those of you that haven’t heard of Buraka Som Sistema before, one could describe their music as a fusion between Angolan Kuduro and up to date electronic music. Kuduro is not only a genre of music, but also a dance.  Buraka Som Sistema have created a whole new sound that has influenced producers, djs and audiences all over the world. Mostly I would like to say that they (among just a few others) are the ones to thank for having a european tropical bass scene.

[spotify id=”spotify:track:3ovzlSJZVe1g4as77ajDQz” width=”300″ height=”380″ /]

What I’ve heard from others who have seen them live are that it’s always dripping from the roof and their shows are something else. It’s just like a big dance battle, with a pumped up crowd and a colourful live band. How can you not be tempted to join? You could just look at one of their music videos to get a hint of what they do on stage! My favorite song is Kalemba (Wegue Wegue), which I listen to every time I walk to work. Then I pretend to be in a music video (yes, I’m still 8 years old from time to time).

Here is a video with parts of the group on a live dj-set at Boiler Room that kind of sums up what sound they have been a part of creating and contributed to!

So… I’ve been waiting since 2008 to see them live and now they are coming to Copenhagen in just 2 weeks!  They are coming to screen their documentary “Off the beaten track” and do a live show with full band and everything!

This is so good I can’t handle it. So I’ll see you there!

What is your dream concert? Tell me about it in the comments field below!
