Who are Garden and when did they see the daylight?
Garden. is a duo consisting of Julius Norrbom and Joakim Andersson. We’ve been making music together and been friends since 2012.
Can you explain your process of making music?
We often improvize. For the most part Joakim starts laying down a guitar phrase and we just keep adding our elements of choice. I’ll try out some vocal ideas or pre-written texts on top of it. The core of a track is almost always finished in a night and then we tear our hair out over it for a few weeks.
What inspires you?
Feelings in general.
Are there any particular artists that have influenced Garden?
I’d say that we cover most of the musical trenches between us. Everything from Lightnin’ Hopkins and Moderat to Aesop Rock. I think It’s hard to specify your influences, but of course stuff you listen to finds its way into your own music. I listen to a lot of upcoming Swedish artists right now like Alice Boman, maybe you’ll be able to hear that in our future songs, maybe not.
Since we made our first song Another Face together we felt an urge to make something more cohesive. Then Joakim abandoned me for a year and ran away to Vancouver so the work pace slowed down a bit. We finished the song Framed over the Internet, emailing tweaks to each-other every other day while he was staying on the other side of the pond. As soon as he got back this summer we finished the other three songs on the EP and just released it. We’ve done exactly everything on this release by ourselves just to see if we could.
Do you have any final shout outs you would like to share with us?
Never trust a man in a hat.
