New Swedish festival: Where’s the Music?

A few weeks ago the new Swedish festival ‘Where’s the Music?’ took its first place in Norrköping, Sweden. 4689 tickets where sold and the three days festival offered 144 artists performing on ten stages and a two days conference consisted by interesting lectures and delegates from all over the world.

The main goal with the festival was to introduce new talents to a bigger audience, to deliberate questions about the music business and build a platform for discussion and exchanges of ideas.

Spotlight: MAKKS

Who is MAKKS and when did he see the daylight?

Makks is an old rudeboy with a lot of gentleman qualities. He has been DJing for about 6 years, and been producing for about 4 years.

How would you describe a typical MAKKS-set?

A typical Makks set starts off at around 85 bpm with some slow wine tunes, then I work myself up tempo-wise. A main thing for me is to keep the energy flowing during my set, and not just jump from one track to another. Then it makes more sense for the crowd so they let go of their phones and start dancing. And musically I mix club music with dancehall, reaggeton, zoukbass and other rhythmical stuff!

What have you been up to this summer and what’s coming up?

Mostly working my daytime job, then been BBQing  every other day, and of course doin’ some beats.

Which track should we absolutely not miss out on this summer?

Oufff, there is so much good music coming every day. From my ringside, you should definitely listen to “Dem Show Me” from myself & Milanrepa out on Fresh Bed Recordings, and I heard my breddas Cocotaxi are cooking up something big for DuttyArtz in NYC!

MAKKS will be DJing at the Emues Showcase in Malmö, Sweden on Saturday, July 26, 2014. Be there!

Spotlight: Jesper Bohman

When did the artist Jesper Bohman see the daylight?

Jesper Bohman is a trippy DJ based out of the woods of Småland. I started to DJ/produce in my bedroom back in 2011, but I still find it extremely difficult to release something because I’m so self-critical. So I prefer to play others’ stuff and keep struggling with my own shit.

How would you describe a typical Jesper Bohman-set?

With two words: Chopped & screwed. A great variety of new beats and the most classic RnB songs with a new twist. There’s nothing better than a high-pitched RnB voice with some electronic beats hammering in the background.  ( ˘ ³˘)❤

What have you been up to this summer and what’s coming up?

I’ve been working on my own material and I hope to be able to drop an EP this autumn.  Upcoming gigs this summer is Emmabodafestivalen and a lot more craziness with the Pizza Slize Crew.

Which track should we absolutely not miss out on this summer?

Acqua di Losó – Lorentz. This song is pretty dope for being Swedish.

Jesper Bohman will be DJing at the Emues Showcase in Malmö, Sweden on Saturday, July 26, 2014. Be there!

Spotlight: Zophy

Who is Zophy and when did she see the daylight?

Zophy is an electro/house/complextro DJ based out of Malmö, Sweden. I started to DJ together with a friend, on some really old and crappy equipment in my living room back in 2010. Back then we were DJing in a duo together, but in early 2013 I decided to go solo and that’s when Zophy was born.

Can you try to explain a typical Zophy-set?

A typical Zophy-set includes a lot of energy, base and all those electro sounds that I love. The most important thing for me during a set is to connect with the audience. I think the hardest part about being a DJ is to constantly read the audience to see what they like and what they react to. It’s all about that. Also, I always try to throw in some surprises, something that the audience doesn’t expect, that I know they’ll love.

What’s the ambition with Zophy and what happens in the future?

My ambition right now is to keep on doing my thing and to have fun with it. I want to keep playing the music I love and to make people dance. I hope that the future will bring some really interesting stuff. I have some projects for this autumn/winter, but nothing is final so I have to keep it a secret for now.

Zophy will be DJing at the Emues Showcase in Malmö, Sweden on Saturday, July 26, 2014. Be there!

Amazing New Music Video: Iida – “Hands”

The new video by Swedish artist Iida is a fabulous call for greater communication, and was premiered on Gaffa.se today. Iida, who has shot up on the charts with her previous single Life Will Kill You, mixes folk, classical and pop music into sweet, sensual and incredibly strong tunes.

For this amazing video, featuring a dancer who is also one of my closest friends, Iida worked together with a deaf girl Amina. Through their cooperation they were able to communicate using their hands, showing that it may be easier than one believes to understand or to be understood.

Watch this fresh video by Iida, and let her know that we’d love to see her on Emues, so that we can suggest and book concerts to see her play live on a stage near us!
